Volunteer Leadership

The Leadership Academy would not be possible without the time commitment of industry professionals who support our retreats, special events, and capstone projects. If you are an engineering professional or HR representative for an engineering-based company, we encourage you to learn more about how you can partner with us. Please contact lcoeleadacad@charlotte.edu for more information about current needs.

Retreat Guest Facilitators

The Leadership Academy hosts three weekend retreats per year for student participants. Academy staff leads the weekend curriculum while guest facilitators share relevant stories or lessons from industry, co-lead small groups, and facilitate case study discussions. Retreats give professionals a unique opportunity to help develop future engineering leaders while interacting with a talented pool of potential job and internship candidates. (weekend commitment)

Special Event Participant

Each spring, the Leadership Academy hosts Professional Impressions. This is a workshop series that teaches students the importance of personal presentation as well as social/business etiquette. Industry professionals are invited to participate in the Professional Impressions etiquette dinner and networking events. (1-3 hour commitment)

Capstone Project Mentor

Industry professionals help students navigate the challenges of creating and implementing a community service project by serving as capstone mentors. Mentors meet with students every month to assist with problem-solving, brainstorming and prioritizing. It is an excellent chance for employers to observe students using the skills they have acquired through the program. (3 hours per month commitment, November through March)
