Industrial Solutions Lab and Senior Design

Senior DesignThe Industrial Solutions Lab (ISL) offers two ways in which industry can partner with the College of Engineering to solve problems.

Senior Design is a two semester project in which students work on multi-disciplinary teams to solve industry supported problems.  The project simulates the real world as students manage budgets, deadlines, and conflicting restraints as they work to provide a solution that meets the needs of the industry supporter.  The time and capital investment for the industry supporter is small given the many benefits:

  • Low cost engineering solution to a problem
  • Development of a prototype
  • Ability to identify and evaluate potential hires
  • Corporate name recognition

The research facilities within the College of Engineering are available to assist with industry research.  The facilities and technical expertise offered by the Industrial Solutions Lab are state-of-the-art.  Not only does each engineering discipline offer research opportunities there are several centers and institutes within the College of Engineering that provide specialized research:

  • Center for Biomedical Research and Science (CBES)
  • Center for Lean Logistics and Engineered Systems (CLLES)
  • Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications
  • Center for Precision Metrology (CPM)
  • Charlotte Research Institute (CRI)
  • Center for Transportation Policy Studies
  • Energy Production & Infrastructure Center (EPIC)
  • Infrastructure, Design, Environmental and Sustainability Center (IDEAS)
  • NC Motorsports and Automotive Research Center (NCMARC)
  • The Infrastructure and Emergency Responder Research and Training Facility (ISERRT)
